Etihad Rail has officially launched its first passenger train service in the UAE, marking a historic milestone in the country’s transportation network and a major step forward in connecting the emirates through modern rail travel.
The inaugural journey successfully linked Fujairah with Abu Dhabi, showcasing the beginning of a new era of faster, more convenient, and sustainable public transport.
The first passenger train departed from Al Hilal City at 5:34am and arrived at Mohamed bin Zayed City station at 7:00am, completing the landmark journey in just over an hour.
The launch ceremony featured cultural performances and celebrations, while passengers enjoyed comfortable onboard services and scenic views as the train travelled across the diverse landscapes of the UAE.
The introduction of the passenger rail service is expected to transform travel within the country by reducing journey times between major cities, improving connectivity, easing road congestion, and supporting economic growth.
Officials also believe the network will strengthen domestic tourism by making it easier for residents and visitors to explore different emirates.
Etihad Rail plans to continue expanding the passenger network over the coming months, with additional stations set to open across the UAE as part of the country’s wider national rail development strategy.
