The Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF 2023) is set to host the popular Ugandan dance group, Masaka Kids Africana. The festival, which takes place from May 3 to 7, has a theme of Train your Brain and boasts over 900 diverse offerings. Masaka Kids Africana, with their 3.45 million YouTube subscribers, 7.8 million Instagram followers, and 5.5 million TikTok followers, will entertain audiences of all ages with their soulful tunes and dance moves.
The group, which consists of over 30 talented dancers who have lost one or both parents due to war, famine, or disease, was founded in 2014 by Kavuma Dauda, a local teacher. The non-profit organization gives these children hope for their future by connecting them to the world through dance and song. Masaka Kids Africana has performed on various international stages and has won several awards, including the 2021 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Award for Favorite African Social Star.
The festival will have 512 guests from 66 countries and will offer 1,658 workshops and sessions. The Sharjah Book Authority organized the event, and it will include the first Sharjah Animation Conference and the second Booksellers Conference. The festival aims to give young people the tools for critical thinking and open up opportunities for learning, skills, and innovation. It is supported by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed AL Qasimi and Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi.
