Dubai is taking another major step toward the future of urban transportation, as riders can now experience fully driverless robotaxis through Uber following the launch of Baidu’s Apollo Go autonomous vehicles on the platform.
Starting August 20, passengers booking UberX or Uber Comfort in selected areas of Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim may be matched with an autonomous Apollo Go robotaxi. Riders can also choose the dedicated “Autonomous” option on Uber to increase their chances of being assigned one of the driverless vehicles.
The electric Apollo Go RT6 is designed to carry up to three passengers and is equipped with more than 30 sensors to support navigation, obstacle detection and safety.
The vehicles operate using advanced autonomous-driving technology designed to navigate urban roads without a human driver.
The launch makes Dubai the first market where Uber and Baidu’s autonomous-driving partnership is being introduced to public riders, marking a significant milestone in the city’s push toward smart and next-generation mobility.
