Over 63,500 E-Scooter Permits Issued in 18 Months in Dubai

Dubai authorities have granted over 63,500 E-scooter permits since April 2022. To ride these scooters, you must be 16 or older. If you already have a valid driving license, you don’t need to take training courses available on the RTA website. To make sure everyone rides safely, Dubai Police and RTA are working together to raise awareness.

This year, they have already talked to 3,000 cyclists and E-scooter riders, teaching them about safety rules, traffic regulations, and how to avoid accidents. Unfortunately, five people lost their lives, and 29 got hurt in E-scooter accidents this year. Dubai Police had to issue over 10,000 fines, which could be up to Dh300, for riders not following traffic rules in just eight months.

Abdullah Yousef Al Ali, CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency, wants everyone to remember the speed limits. In residential areas and along beaches, it is 20kmph. On streets shared with cars, it is 30kmph. However, there are no set speed limits on Seih Al Salam and Al-Qudra lanes.

Major-General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, has a big goal. They want to reduce violations and accidents. To achieve this, riders have been taught about traffic rules, where they can ride, and the importance of safety. They need to wear helmets, have reflective vests, and proper lights on their E-scooters and bikes. Plus, their brakes must work well.
