RTA Announces Expansion of Burj Khalifa-Dubai Mall Metro Station

Dubai is expanding its Burj Khalifa-Dubai Mall Metro Station to handle more passengers and reduce congestion during busy times. The project, led by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in collaboration with Emaar Properties, aims to increase the station’s capacity by 65%.

Once the upgrade is complete, the metro station will be able to serve up to 220,000 passengers daily. This is a big step forward for the city, especially during high-traffic periods like New Year’s Eve, national holidays, and other major events that attract large crowds.

The station’s total area will be expanded from 6,700 square metres to 8,500 square metres. This additional space will allow for more platforms, smoother passenger flow, and better service overall. The hourly capacity of the station will also increase from the current 7,250 passengers per hour to 12,320 passengers per hour.

This expansion is part of Dubai’s larger vision to make public transport more efficient, convenient, and future-ready. The RTA and Emaar believe that this upgrade will not only improve the passenger experience but also support tourism and the city’s growing population.

The construction work will be carefully planned to avoid disrupting metro services as much as possible. Officials are confident that the improved station will be ready to handle the increasing number of residents and visitors using the metro every day.

This development reflects Dubai’s ongoing commitment to modern, smart infrastructure and its ambition to stay ahead of the transportation needs of a fast-paced global city.
