Saudi Arabia has launched a massive security and crowd management operation for Hajj 2026 as the number of arriving pilgrims surpassed 1.5 million ahead of the annual pilgrimage.
Authorities announced that strict measures are being implemented to maintain safety, organization, and the smooth movement of worshippers during one of the world’s largest religious gatherings. Officials confirmed that more than 366,000 unauthorized individuals were stopped from entering Mecca as part of efforts to prevent overcrowding and ensure that only registered pilgrims participate in Hajj rituals.
Security agencies also revealed that over 217 fake Hajj campaigns had been identified and dismantled, while thousands of violations were intercepted at security checkpoints positioned around key routes leading into the holy city. The government has continued its crackdown on illegal operators and unauthorized transportation networks to protect pilgrims from fraud and unsafe conditions.
To strengthen operations this year, Saudi authorities are relying on advanced technology, including AI-supported monitoring systems, smart surveillance networks, drones, and real-time crowd tracking tools. These systems are being used alongside coordinated field operations carried out by thousands of security personnel, emergency responders, and Hajj officials deployed across Mecca and the surrounding holy sites.
Officials stated that the primary goal of the extensive security strategy is to preserve the spiritual integrity of Hajj while ensuring that pilgrims can perform their religious duties safely and peacefully. Authorities added that compliance levels among pilgrims and service providers have shown noticeable improvement compared to previous years, contributing to fewer violations, better crowd control, and more efficient overall operations.
The annual Hajj pilgrimage remains one of the largest and most significant religious events in the world, with Saudi Arabia continuing to expand its infrastructure, technology, and security capabilities to manage the growing number of worshippers arriving from across the globe.
