UAE Fatwa Council Issues Rules For Eid Al Adha Sacrifices

The UAE Council for Fatwa has released comprehensive guidelines outlining the proper conditions and religious requirements for performing Eid Al Adha sacrifices. The council explained that sacrificial animals must come from approved livestock categories, specifically sheep, goats, cattle, and camels, in accordance with Islamic teachings.

Authorities stressed that animals selected for Qurbani must be healthy and free from any visible defects or illnesses that could affect the validity of the sacrifice. Animals suffering from blindness, severe weakness, lameness, sickness, or major physical injuries are not considered suitable. The guidance aims to ensure that the practice is carried out with care, dignity, and respect for animal welfare.

The council also detailed the minimum age requirements for sacrificial animals. Sheep should generally be around one year old, goats must be at least one year old, cattle should be approximately three years old, while camels must reach five years of age before they qualify for sacrifice.

In its statement, the council highlighted that Qurbani is a highly recommended Sunnah for Muslims who are financially capable of performing it. It added that the ritual carries deep spiritual and social significance, encouraging generosity, compassion, unity, and support for families and communities during the Eid Al Adha celebrations.
