UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan surprised Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum by becoming the first passenger to arrive at Dubai’s newly opened Etihad Rail passenger station.
The UAE President travelled from Abu Dhabi on the inaugural passenger train ahead of the official launch of Etihad Rail’s passenger services.
His arrival at the new Dubai station added a memorable moment to the inauguration and highlighted the significance of the UAE’s expanding national railway network.
Sheikh Hamdan welcomed Sheikh Mohamed and praised the President for his continued presence among the people and for sharing in important national milestones and achievements.
The visit also reflected the leadership’s support for major infrastructure projects designed to strengthen connectivity across the Emirates.
Etihad Rail’s passenger services officially begin on September 30, connecting Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Fujairah.
The new service is expected to provide passengers with a convenient alternative for travelling between the three destinations while further strengthening links between major cities and regions across the UAE.
Ticket fares start from Dh39 for journeys to Abu Dhabi and Dh29 for trips to Fujairah. The launch marks another major step in the development of the UAE’s passenger railway network and its broader plans to improve transportation and connectivity across the country.
