UAE President Approves Building 9 Dams, 9 Water Canals in Various Regions Including Sharjah

Following the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and under the supervision of His Highness Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who serves as Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, a committee has approved a significant initiative aimed at improving water management in the United Arab Emirates.

This initiative, called the “Initiatives of His Highness the President of the United Arab Emirates,” has announced a comprehensive plan to build a series of dams and water canals throughout various regions of the country. The main goal of these projects is to enhance the UAE’s water infrastructure, aligning with the UAE Water Security Strategy 2036. This strategy aims to improve the capacity of water facilities to better manage the country’s water resources.

As part of this initiative, the committee plans to construct nine new water dams and expand the capacity of two existing dams. Additionally, they will build several embankment barriers to further support water management efforts. These projects are designed to help address the impacts of climate change and increase water reserves by effectively capturing rainwater and floodwaters. Collectively, these projects will have a total storage capacity of up to 8 million cubic meters, significantly improving the region’s ability to manage its water resources.

The committee has also outlined plans to construct nine water canals, which will be approximately 9 kilometers long. These canals are specifically designed to manage water flow from rainfall in certain residential areas, ensuring that water is effectively channeled and used.

The construction of these projects is expected to be completed within the next 19 months. This initiative is a crucial step toward ensuring water security in the UAE and demonstrates the country’s commitment to sustainable development and climate resilience. By investing in these infrastructure projects, the UAE aims to safeguard its water resources for the future and ensure that its communities are well-prepared for changing environmental conditions.
