UAE To Introduce Lower Driving Age and Stricter Traffic Penalties in March 2025

Starting March 2025, the UAE will implement a new federal traffic law to update its road regulations. One major change is lowering the legal driving age to 17, allowing younger drivers to get their licenses under strict conditions. The law will also introduce new rules for modern personal transport options like e-bikes and e-scooters, ensuring their safe use on the roads.

The updated law includes stricter penalties for traffic violations. Drivers caught under the influence of alcohol could face a fine of up to Dh100,000 or even jail time. Jaywalkers will also face higher fines for crossing roads illegally. Additionally, individuals involved in hit-and-run accidents may receive up to two years in prison along with a fine of Dh100,000.

These new measures aim to improve road safety, reduce accidents, and properly regulate newer modes of transport. Authorities believe that these changes will encourage responsible driving and help maintain order on the roads.

The UAE government has been working to modernize its traffic laws to match the changing transportation landscape. With more people using e-bikes and e-scooters, the new law will ensure their safe integration into the existing traffic system.

Officials encourage residents to stay informed about these changes and follow the new rules to avoid penalties. The goal is to create a safer and more organized traffic environment for everyone, whether they are driving cars, riding e-scooters, or simply walking on the streets.
