The United Arab Emirates has introduced its first locally sourced gemstone, named “Spirit of the Emirates,” during the 57th Watch and Jewellery Middle East Show in Sharjah, marking a significant development in the nation’s growing luxury and jewellery sector. The gemstone, a striking red jasper, was discovered and sourced from the Al Siji region in Fujairah, making it the first gemstone to be developed entirely from Emirati land.
The launch represents an important step toward strengthening the UAE’s domestic jewellery industry by reducing reliance on imported materials and creating new opportunities for local artisans and designers. Officials say the initiative is aimed at enhancing the country’s jewellery value chain, supporting homegrown talent, and positioning the UAE as a stronger player in the global luxury market.
The exhibition also placed a spotlight on Emirati creativity, featuring exclusive collections by local designers who blended traditional cultural elements with modern craftsmanship. Many of the showcased pieces incorporated locally sourced materials, reflecting both innovation and a strong connection to national heritage. Industry experts believe the introduction of “Spirit of the Emirates” could pave the way for more locally inspired luxury products and further elevate the UAE’s reputation as a hub for premium jewellery and design.
