Al Ain has completed a 14-kilometre green barrier along Tahnoun bin Mohammed Road, featuring 1,807 ghaf trees designed to help reduce drifting sand and improve safety for motorists and nearby communities.
The natural windbreak is expected to slow wind speeds and limit the movement of sand across the road corridor.
Technical studies suggest that, depending on vegetation density and wind direction, the barrier could reduce sand encroachment by 70–90% behind the planted area.
Beyond road protection, the project highlights the importance of native vegetation and sustainable environmental planning.
The ghaf trees also contribute to a greener landscape, support local ecosystems and may help reduce noise levels, creating a more resilient and environmentally friendly corridor for Al Ain.
