Dubai World Central (DWC) is moving closer to a major expansion, with its second runway expected to open by the end of 2027 as part of the wider development of Al Maktoum International Airport.
The airport’s first phase is planned to support up to 150 million passengers annually in the early 2030s, strengthening Dubai’s long-term position as a global aviation hub.
flydubai could become the first airline to begin shifting part of its operations from Dubai International Airport (DXB) to DWC, with reports suggesting that five or six aircraft could be transferred as early as next year.
The transition is expected to take place gradually. Emirates and flydubai are likely to make greater use of DWC as capacity constraints at DXB increase, eventually making Al Maktoum International a key part of Dubai’s future aviation network.
