Applications are now open for the Dubai Tunnels Initiative, a major public art project launched by Dubai Culture and Arts Authority in collaboration with Roads and Transport Authority. The initiative invites Emirati artists as well as UAE-based creatives to take part in transforming more than 40 tunnels across Dubai into visually striking public art spaces.
The project aims to redefine everyday urban environments by converting ordinary transit routes into creative landmarks that reflect the spirit, culture, and modern identity of Dubai. Through large-scale murals and artistic installations, the initiative seeks to enhance the city’s public spaces while making art more accessible to residents and visitors alike.
Selected artists will have the opportunity to contribute original concepts inspired by themes connected to heritage, innovation, diversity, sustainability, and the future of the city. The artworks are expected to combine creativity with cultural expression, helping to strengthen Dubai’s reputation as a global center for art, design, and urban development.
Officials stated that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to integrate art into daily life and encourage greater community engagement with public spaces. By supporting local talent and offering artists a highly visible platform, the project also aims to nurture the UAE’s growing creative sector and inspire new forms of artistic collaboration.
The transformation of the tunnels is expected to add a fresh visual dimension to Dubai’s infrastructure, creating more vibrant and engaging surroundings while reinforcing the city’s commitment to innovation, culture, and creative expression.
