Dubai RTA Opens Upgraded Hessa Street, Reduces Travel Time from 15 to 4 Minutes

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially opened the upgraded 4.5-kilometre Hessa Street corridor, delivering significant improvement for thousands of motorists who use the route every day. The project is expected to ease congestion and provide faster, smoother travel across one of the city’s busiest road networks.

With the completion of the latest upgrade, travel time between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road has been reduced dramatically from around 15 minutes to only 4 minutes during regular traffic flow. This marks a major boost for daily commuters and residents living in surrounding communities.

The carrying capacity of the road has also doubled, increasing from 8,000 vehicles per hour to 16,000 vehicles per hour. Four lanes are now fully operational in each direction, allowing better traffic movement and reducing bottlenecks during peak hours.

Several major intersection bridges have also been completed as part of the project, helping improve connectivity and traffic circulation in key areas including Al Barsha, Al Sufouh 2, and Jumeirah Village Circle (JVC).

Meanwhile, Phase 2 of the development is already underway. It will include additional bridges and a tunnel system designed to further enhance mobility in the area. Once completed, the next phase is expected to reduce another key travel stretch from 24 minutes to just 5 minutes, highlighting Dubai’s continued focus on smart infrastructure and efficient urban transport.
