Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a major initiative to upgrade the lighting systems on 30 pedestrian bridges across the emirate as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance public safety, sustainability, and smart infrastructure.
The project will replace existing lighting with energy-efficient LED systems equipped with motion-sensor technology.
The advanced lighting will automatically adjust based on pedestrian movement, improving visibility for bridge users while significantly reducing electricity consumption and lowering long-term operating and maintenance costs.
According to the RTA, the initiative aligns with Dubai’s vision of creating a smarter, more sustainable urban environment by integrating innovative technologies into public infrastructure.
The upgraded lighting is expected to provide a safer and more comfortable experience for pedestrians, particularly during nighttime hours, while supporting the city’s environmental goals.
The first phase of the project will cover 21 pedestrian bridges, with work already underway. The remaining bridges will be upgraded in subsequent phases, with the entire project scheduled for completion by the fourth quarter of 2026.
The lighting upgrade reflects Dubai’s continued commitment to sustainable development, energy efficiency, and improving the quality of life for residents and visitors.
