UAE Consul General Releases Green Turtle Hatchlings into Arabian Sea

Bakhit Atiq al-Rumaithi, the UAE Consul General in Karachi, led a meaningful event at Turtle Beach, Hawkesbay, where young green turtles were released into the Arabian Sea. The ceremony was organized by the Sindh Wildlife Department (SWD) and attended by SWD Deputy Conservator Mumtaz Soomro, Marine Turtle Unit leader Ashfaq Memon, and a group of local schoolchildren.

During the event, al-Rumaithi watched a documentary that showcased the breeding habits of turtles in Pakistan, learning about the challenges these creatures face. He highlighted the importance of this turtle release as a key step toward environmental protection and marine conservation. “This release is a special moment for everyone here,” he said.

Al-Rumaithi also spoke about the natural beauty of Pakistan’s coastal areas and urged visitors to handle plastic waste responsibly. He noted that littering, especially with plastic, harms marine life and pollutes the environment. The consul general’s message emphasized the need for everyone to contribute to keeping coastal areas clean and safe for wildlife like the green turtles.

This event not only celebrated the young turtles but also raised awareness about protecting marine habitats.
