Saudi Arabia Announces New Rules for Hiring Domestic Workers

Saudi Arabia has introduced new rules to protect domestic workers and make the hiring process more fair and transparent. Under these new regulations, employers are no longer allowed to charge domestic workers any fees related to recruitment, work permits, or job transfers.

Anyone who breaks this rule could face a fine of up to SR20,000 and may also be banned from hiring domestic workers for three years. Those who repeat the offence could face even stricter punishments.

The Ministry of Human Resources has also released an updated guide that clearly explains the rights of domestic workers. It includes important protections such as fair and timely payment of wages, at least one day off every week, paid annual leave, proper healthcare, safe housing, and the right to keep their personal documents, such as passports and ID cards.

The guide also recognizes different types of domestic jobs, including drivers, cooks, and nurses, to make sure all workers receive equal treatment and respect.

These changes aim to improve the overall wellbeing of domestic workers in the Kingdom and ensure that employment contracts are clear, transparent, and fair for everyone involved.
