Saudi Arabia Launches New Red Sea Shipping Route Linking Jeddah, India and Djibouti

Saudi Arabia’s Ports Authority (Mawani) has introduced a new shipping service in the Red Sea through Jeddah Islamic Port, marking another step toward strengthening the Kingdom’s international trade network and maritime connectivity. The service, operated by Emirates Shipping Line, is designed to facilitate smoother cargo movement and enhance commercial ties between Saudi Arabia, India, and Djibouti.

The newly launched route will connect Jeddah Islamic Port with Mundra Port in India and the Port of Djibouti, offering a carrying capacity of up to 2,144 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). The service is expected to improve logistics efficiency, reduce transit times, and provide businesses with more reliable shipping options across key regional markets.

Officials believe the initiative will contribute to stronger supply chain resilience, increased trade volumes, and greater economic cooperation between Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. The launch also aligns with Saudi Arabia’s National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aims to transform the Kingdom into a leading global logistics hub by expanding maritime links and strengthening connections between Asia, Africa, and Europe through world-class port infrastructure and services.
