Dubai is set to further strengthen its pedestrian infrastructure with an ambitious plan to construct 31 new pedestrian bridges and tunnels by 2030, as part of the city’s ongoing efforts to improve mobility and road safety.
Among the key developments is a 730-metre pedestrian and cycling bridge that will link Liwan with Dubai Silicon Oasis, crossing the busy Dubai-Al Ain Road. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) says the project is designed to provide safer and more convenient access for residents, while also encouraging walking and cycling as sustainable transport options.
According to the RTA, these new projects are part of a broader strategy to create a more pedestrian-friendly urban environment and reduce accidents involving pedestrians. Dubai’s pedestrian network has seen major growth over the years, expanding from just 26 bridges and tunnels in 2006 to 178 by 2025, reflecting the emirate’s focus on modern and inclusive infrastructure.
The upcoming bridges and tunnels will feature advanced safety systems, better accessibility, and dedicated pathways for cyclists and pedestrians, supporting Dubai’s vision of becoming one of the world’s safest and most sustainable cities for urban mobility.
